Become a Referee for the 2024-25 Indoor Season with the Regina Soccer Referees Association

Sep. 23, 2024

Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a soccer referee? The Regina Soccer Referees Association (RSRA) is excited to announce two unique opportunities to join their team for the 2024-25 indoor season. Whether you're a coach, player, or parent, now is the perfect time to get involved and support soccer in Regina by promoting this opportunity to your community.

The RSRA will be hosting two types of referee clinics aimed at different age groups:

1. Entry-Level Clinic (14+)

This clinic is designed for new referees aged 14 and older and is the traditional entry point for those who want to officiate soccer games. It's an excellent way to develop your knowledge of the game while contributing to your local soccer community.

2. Small-Sided Clinic (Ages 12-13)

For the first time, the RSRA is offering a clinic specifically for younger participants aged 12-13. This new "Small-Sided" Clinic provides an opportunity for aspiring referees to get started earlier and gain valuable experience refereeing youth games in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

Steps to Become a Referee

The process to become a certified referee involves two important steps:

  1. Complete an Online Theory Course
All participants must complete the appropriate Online Theory Course based on their clinic type. The online module focuses on the FIFA Laws of the Game and must be finished by October 12.

  2. Attend the In-Person Clinic
After completing the theory course, participants will attend an in-person clinic to receive hands-on training.

    • Entry-Level Clinic (14+): Saturday, October 19, from 9 am to 5 pm
    • Small-Sided Clinic (12-13): Sunday, October 20, from 9 am to 1 pm

Please note, individuals may participate in only one of the clinics.

Important Details

  • Age Requirements:

    • Entry-Level Clinic: Participants must be 14 years or older to register for the Canada Soccer Association’s (CSA) Online Theory Course.
    • Small-Sided Clinic: Open to participants aged 12-13. Referees in this group will officiate U9 games until they are old enough (14+) to complete the full Entry-Level Clinic.
    • Note: Children under 12 are not eligible to become referees.
  • Clinic Fees:

    • Entry-Level Clinic: $150 per participant
    • Small-Sided Clinic: $75 per participant
  • Clinic Capacity:
Both clinics are limited to 15 participants. If the clinics fill up, a waitlist will be maintained.

Benefits of the Small-Sided Clinic

The Small-Sided Clinic aims to introduce younger participants to the world of refereeing in a gradual and manageable way. Referees aged 12-13 will officiate U9 games, allowing them to build confidence and skills while learning in a supportive environment. Once they turn 14, they can attend the full Entry-Level Clinic and take on larger roles in officiating.

How to Register

Instructions on how to register for the online modules and clinics will be provided separately. For any questions or further information, please contact Shaun Augustin, RSRA Treasurer, at rsra.treasurer@gmail.com or (306) 526-8781.
